Working on a Communications Tower
Malibu, CA

February 22, 2009

These are images of a job I took with Don to run 1-5/8" cable up a 125' communications tower. The view was spectacular looking over the Malibu hills. You could see Catalina island from the top of the tower.

This job was great! I really enjoyed the challenge of working on the communications tower. I'd really look forward to doing it again. This job has made me realize how important it is to be in shape. Climbing up and down the tower was no small feat. It took a fair amount of concentration, focus, and determination to move around and get situated. At one point I let go of the pulling line that is attached to the top of the tower. I had to climb to the very top to get the line. In the end, I was exhausted from being up there for so long. I'd really like to thank Don and Steve for taking me up to the tower. The day was fascinating and the work was very interesting. Also, thank you for taking the time to teach me and explain the different aspects of HAM radio and the different types of communications. You have a very fascinating job.

By the way, here is good ol' Steve messing around.
That's the 1-5/8" communications grade cable he's holding between his legs.
That's the line we ran up the tower. He wishes he could have a big Deck!

On the way back to town, we saw a place with these skillfuly carved statues.

Here's to smokey bear!
